In a world caught up in social and global issues, it is now more crucial than ever to teach future generations how to passionately, yet respectfully, express their opinions to others.
By joining the Middlebrook Debate Team, debaters will learn how to navigate opposing perspectives, critical thinking, and public speaking in order to equip debaters with lifelong skills. When competing in tournaments, debaters will be able to display their skills, compete for awards, and make friends with fellow debaters all across the state! Novice or open, debaters will work in a supportive and collaborative environment with the shared interest of a variety of things. From current events to extraterrestrial beings, Debaters will learn how to debate it all! Trackside offers a fun, exploratory afternoon of ASL for our middle schoolers interested in getting together and being coached by our ASL teen leaders!
Students will have the opportunity to engage in various ASL activities that will teach them the basics of the language, including the ABCs, colors, the essentials of basic conversation, descriptions, and more, as well as learning about deaf culture. This is a fun low-key environment to learn something new alongside friends. This Fall, Trackside Robotics Club will be using Lego Mindstorms kits to teach students designing, engineering, and programming principles. Led by high school students who participate in competitive robotics, students will choose to either work individually or in small groups to build their robots using lego technic, and later program them with block-coding and python. Robotics club is best suited for kids who can focus & want to learn how to build a robot & possibility for competition. Must be able to follow direction & work well in a small group. Have you ever watched a movie and thought, wow! That was amazing! How did they do that? In this class taught by two high school film expert editors, Finn and Will, you will learn tricks and skills of the trade to understand the basics of video editing.
Using industry grade free software, Davinci Resolve, you will learn many things such as how to let music dictate a story, the motivations of a “cut”, basic color grading, basic visual effects, and more! You will create a short video to showcase the skills you learned! This course will help develop or build upon your love for film, and appreciation for the hidden art of editing. Avid angler in both fresh and saltwater - over 13 years of experience. 5th place winner in 2024 World’s Greatest Bluefish Tournament for the under 18 category. 2024 NEBassin kayak tournament trail angler. Experience on many bodies of water. THOMAS MARRIOTT: 16 years old. Life long Angler in both fresh and saltwater. Has participated in many tournaments, some of which include the World's Greatest Bluefish Tournament, and NEBassin kayak bass fishing league. NEW TO TRACKSIDE More than just a 'club', join two WHS accomplished fishermen with deep experiences - (and awards!) as they teach you all about fishing and beyond. Students will learn information about water safety, different bodies of water, effective ways to catch fish, different species of water creatures, and much more all whilst fishing themselves. This is a highly instructional experience open to those with any level of experience. Students must be able to focus, adhere to safe fishing practices and follow instruction. Students will meet at Trackside after school but fishing will take place OFF SITE in a variety of local waters. Campers are highly encouraged to bring their own equipment, however backups will be provided to those without. We look forward to getting lines tight! Travel waivers necessary - to be completed before first class. Whether you're an experienced writer or just starting out, the Creative Writing Club will offer you a space to do what you love!
You and your friends will be given various tips and tricks on how to write everything from stories to poems to short films. We'll do character work, plot development, and silly little exercises that allow you the freedom to create whatever you want. Feel free to bring your own pre-existing projects in if you wish, but there’s obviously no expectation to do so. This club will focus on creativity - no matter how weird - so it’s guaranteed to be super fun no matter what! Now a signature club @TRACKSIDE! This club is designed to take new and old players in grades 6-8 and give them a place to make friends & learn to play the incredible game of Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate is a fun and energetic non-contact sport open to players of all skill levels. Players will learn the basics of the game, new ways of throwing the frisbee and different strategies. Everybody has the ability to reach their athletic goals at any level. In this club, Samantha Yan and Emma Hendricks, WHS athletes, will provide various types of workouts and equipment to help young athletes feel more confident on and off the field.
