The Trackside robotics club will focus on designing, building and coding a robot that is able to compete in real competitions and scrimmages through VEX Robotics.
Members will learn how to work as a team, in addition to learning the basics of coding, engineering, and designing, as well as learning how to problem solve. The challenge we are working around is called “Spin Up.” This club is a fun introduction to the complexities of robotics! Robotics club is best suited for kids who can focus & want to learn how to build a robot & prepare for competition. Must be able to use tools safely (with supervision) and work well in a small group, with 2 incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable high school leaders. **This is a DOUBLE SESSION that runs Fall & Winter. D&D is a core offering at Trackside and for good reason.
Come experience the world of heroic fantasy. The core of D&D is storytelling. You and your friends tell a story together, guiding your heroes through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring rescues, courtly intrigue, and much more. Those who dip their toes in the waters of D&D usually end up a lifelong player. For beginners, our dungeon masters walk you through the entire experience, once you've got the basics down, you can level up to our more experienced group. This Fall we're offering 4 D&D Groups, limit 5 students per group. MONDAYS: 3:30 - 5:15 pm (8 weeks) 1. Beginner Middle School Group 2. Open art club provides guided art projects while allowing kids to freely explore their artistic abilities.
Each week will feature different activities such as painting, sketching, clay, tie dye and more! Students will also have the opportunity to use materials each week to come up with their own project designs and creations. The club will be run by Lauren and Lydia, two high school sophomores who have varying experiences studying art yet share a passion for creativity and expression. Alex, a senior at Wilton High School will be teaching the basics of Sign Language in the hopes of getting kids excited and ready for sign language at the High School Level.
Members will learn how to sign the ABCs, in addition to learning fingerspelling, colors, and around-the-house signs. We'll learn a little bit about Deaf culture and how to be respectful when learning sign language. This program is best suited for students able to focus, work well in a small group or by yourself, and able to connect with your amazing instructor Alex. This is a unique opportunity not typically open to middle school students. We're thrilled to bring ASL to Trackside. You're in for a treat from our leader Eli. He's chosen the play, '10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse' because it showcases each performers' talents with fun & zany characters. It guarantees a blast for the performers & audience alike! Along with rehearsing for the show, actors will learn techniques such as character work to learn how to be a better performer. It's not just a running club. It's BEYOND.
Ava created this program because she's passionate about introducing kids to the skills they will be exposed to in track beyond just running. Students will practice and go over the basics of a variety of field events such as the long jump and hurdles as well as short distance sprinting techniques like how to effectively use starting blocks. We will also briefly talk about nutrition and how to feel your best before a race! The goal is to help kids who are interested in possibly joining a more competitive, high school level team in the future explore the sport in a more relaxed & fun environment. The Wilton Garden Club and Trackside Teen Center team up annually to offer the Green Teens program, a truly unique and wonderful program for middle school students.
Students will be involved with creating and maintaining vegetable gardens, learning about the importance of healthy foods, and give back to the community as the produce they grow will be donated to the Wilton Food Pantry. Ultimate Frisbee comes to Trackside!
This club is designed to take new and old players in grades 6-8 and give them a place to make friends & learn to play the incredible game of Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate is a fun and energetic non-contact sport open to players of all skill levels. Players will learn the basics of the game, new ways of throwing the frisbee and different strategies.
