WILTON'S AWARD WINNING GARDEN PROGRAM FOR YOUTH

Thank you to all of generous donors who help our garden grow.


​The Wilton Garden Club and Trackside Teen Center team up annually to offer the Green Teens program for middle & high school students.

The hope is to get more young people involved with creating and maintaining vegetable gardens, to teach youth about the importance of healthy foods, and to give back to the community.

The produce grown is donated to the Wilton Food Pantry and the fresh flowers are cut and arranged for the local Senior Center. 

Led by experienced gardeners from the Wilton Garden Club, students participate in hands-on activities of designing garden beds, planting, maintaining, harvesting as well as learning how to cook with the produce grown in their gardens.

There's also an opportunity for families and friends to work the gardens during the summer months. 
This past growing season, we donated 232 pounds of fresh, organic produce to the Wilton Food Pantry, as well as, a hundred floral arrangements to the Wilton Senior Center and Wilton Commons.  All from the work of our youth gardeners!

They are recent winners of the Pollinator Pathways Award and were presented a Proclamation by the Town of Wilton.

Free Summer Youth Gardening Program

Come join us in our whimsical youth garden this summer. Members from the Wilton Garden Club work with youth gardeners on Monday mornings from 9:00-11:00 so that we can donate our fresh, organic produce to the Food Pantry at the beginning of the week and beautiful, fresh floral arrangements to the senior center. Youth gardeners will learn about pollinators and native plants, make garden art decorations and various garden fresh cooking recipes. 

Our goal is to beat last year’s numbers and this summer strive to donate over 300 pounds to the food pantry. 
Come help us reach our goal as we give back to our community. 
This youth gardening program meets at the garden located in the grassy area in the middle of Trackside Teen Centers parking lot.

Green Teens Over The Years

GREEN TEENS HISTORY
The Neighborhood Garden at Trackside was originally built by Girl Scout, Karina Olsen for her Girl Scout Gold Award Project in 2011. She and other Wilton High School students grew vegetables and flowers at the garden for many years for the Wilton Food Pantry.

In the Spring of 2015, Steven Batter Jr. and Nicholas Johnson of Boy Scout Troop 20 designed, constructed, and installed new raised beds and a tool shed at the garden for their Eagle Scout projects.

In the Spring of 2016, Sean Bergen added two more raised beds and Michael McElroy completed a tri-section compost bin as their Eagle Scout Projects.
