The Trackside robotics club focuses on designing, building and coding a robot that is able to compete in real competitions and scrimmages through VEX Robotics. Students will learn how to work as a team, in addition to learning the basics of coding, engineering, and designing, as well as learning how to problem solve. This club is a fun introduction to the complexities of robotics! Robotics club is best suited for kids who can focus & want to learn how to build a robot & prepare for competition. Must be able to use tools safely (with supervision) and work well in a small group, with 2 incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable high school leaders. NEW OFFERING! Trackside is excited to parter with YOUR ACADEMICS. YA will be providing FREE, in person, academic tutoring, at Trackside Mon, Tues & Wed for students grade 6-12. Tutoring available for a wide range of subject areas including math, science, history and more. Virtual tutoring available for students grades 3-12 through their website. D&D is a core offering at Trackside and for good reason.
Come experience the world of heroic fantasy. The core of D&D is storytelling. You and your friends tell a story together, guiding your heroes through quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring rescues, courtly intrigue, and much more. Those who dip their toes in the waters of D&D usually end up a lifelong player. For beginners, our dungeon masters walk you through the entire experience, once you've got the basics down, you can level up to our more experienced group. THREE GROUPS. Limit 5 students per group. MONDAYS: 3:30 - 5:15 pm (9 weeks) 1. Beginner Middle School Group 2. Experienced Middle School Group MONDAYS 5:30 - 7pm (9 weeks) 3. In the digital age, computer languages are becoming increasingly important. Our entire lives are designed around computers, making a strong foundation in coding incredibly valuable.
Trackside's Coding Club will introduce members to the world of computer science through JavaScript, the most popular coding language and one of the core building blocks on the Web. Run by HS Leader, Will Traub, AP computer science student and Center for Global Studies computer science competition coach. THIS OFFERING WILL INCLUDE SOME FIELD TRIPS TO TOWN TO LOCAL BUSINESSES LIKE RISE DOUGHNUTS AND PARLOR. Students will be baking a variety of items from pancakes to snickerdoodles with a unique opportunity to have a bake off experience at the end of the course. And yes, she'll also cover the importance of cleaning up! Preplay at Trackside is a well-oiled machine, run by our talented high school leaders who are filled with passion, knowledge & experience. This is an incredible opportunity to learn & practice the art of IMPROV, which has many benefits. There's lots of laughter at Trackside on IMPROV days! A unique opportunity not typically open to middle school students, our amazing High School leaders will be teaching the basics and beyond.
Members will have the opportunity to engage in various ASL activities that will teach them the basics of the language, including the ABCs, colors, the essentials of basic conversation, descriptions, and more, as well as learning the essentials of deaf culture. Engaging and fun activities and games like "Telephone" and "Prize in the Pot" will connect students through learning and laughter! This program is best suited for students able to focus, work well in a group or by yourself. No experience needed. PLEASE NOTE: This class is 4 sessions only. A new, exciting offering at Trackside! 3D Design & Printing club to explore the exciting realm of turning digital ideas into tangible creations. Led by an experienced Wilton high school Sophomore, our sessions on offer a perfect blend of experience in computer CAD programs and mechanical skills. During our sessions, students will delve into the basics of 3D design using tools like Tinkercad and Onshape. We'll also get hands-on with several 3D printers, turning digital creations into physical objects. It's a fantastic opportunity to develop technical skills, foster collaboration, and unleash creativity! This club is ideal for students curious about technology, can stay focused on their computers, and excited to bring their ideas to life through 3D printing. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn and a love for beautiful design. We offer an exciting opportunity for middle schoolers to develop your passion in a group that makes learning fast-paced, thrilling, and rewarding! Quiz bowl is a fun, dynamic, friendly academic competition involving students collaborating in teams to answer trivia-style buzzer questions against others with a similar passion. There will be opportunities to compete against other schools across the country! Join a welcoming, tightly-woven community of fellow quiz bowlers. Join our Mock Trial Club, modeled after the WHS Mock Trial. we'll be diving into both criminal and civil cases (depending on the week)and will learn how to tackle the case by either playing an attorney or a witness. Students will be transformed into attorneys, learning how to make objections, create direct/cross-examinations, create opening and closing statements, and engage with the rules of evidence. Students will learn how to control a narrative, and work on public speaking skills. Get ready for an “arresting” experience.
